“The CARAA unveiled the true face of Abra” -SDS Angway

             “It was a big challenge for SDO-Abra to serve as host division in the biggest sports event in the Cordillera. But like any other battles everyone faces, this one was also successfully conquered because of the collaborative efforts every Abrenio exerted. With these efforts, CARAA in Abra was tagged as the “Best CARAA ever”!

Sibling Gold. Jolina and Jeremiah bravely conquered their disabilities to proudly wear four gold medals in the Special Events for Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN).

             For most people watching, cheering and loving every single sports event of the CARAA Meet 2018, little do they know that special individuals are also struggling to win that most cherished medal that means the world to every athlete.

Apayao Lady Eagles, Baguio E-Lions boys bag 3x3 basketball crown

Apayao Lady Eagles clobbered their three opponents- Baguio E-Lions, Benguet Stingers and Abra Stallions on 3x3 secondary girls basketball games, Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Bangued East Central School gymnasium. The ladies shouldered the offensive strike of the E-Lion ladies on the championship round. With the win, the Lady Eagles led to their victory on the quest for gold medal, thus, contributing to their province’s overall standing.

Abra plays futsal

             It is the first time of Abra to field athletes in Futsal. This is what Abra Futsal Team Coach Maricar R. Suson disclosed after Abra’s sorry loss to Kalinga, 12-0, on February 4 at the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) Gymnasium in Lagangilang, Abra as the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet 2018 continues.

Abra Stallions

           Indeed, after the rigid and painstaking trainings of the basketball athletes, at last Abra Stallions attained the highest spot in the CARAA 2018 Basketball Elementary during the final match as they toppled Baguio E-Lions, 63-53, early morning, Thursday at Bangued East Central School gymnasium. Watched by hundreds of Abrenians and Baguio delegates, the Stallions illustrated their aggressiveness even in the first quarter finishing the game with a 10-point lead.

Benguet arm wrestlers pin down opponents

          John Paul Aquino and Romeo Junior Galate of Benguet rack up in the just concluded single round robin Arm wrestling competition at Bangued Town Plaza on February 5. With a combination of strength and technique, Aquino and Galate were able to pin the arms of their opponents from Mountain Province, Abra and Baguio City that made them the champion in this event. On the other hand, Jerahmeel Fagyan and Chenzyne Awilan both from Mountain Province were silver medalists, Jonnie Arce, Johnson Balla from Abra, Nico T.

E-Lions dominates first leg of swimming event

          The Baguio E-lions created a huge splash by earning 19 gold medals out of 24 events in the first day of the swimming competition for CARAA 2018 held at Abra Sports Complex on Feb. 5.

             Early morning on Feb. 5, teams of elementary and secondary, boys and girls came to compete for the 60 swimming events in 6 sessions comprising of Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, Medley Relay, Breaststroke, Individual Medley and Freestyle Relay. 24 swimming events in 2 sessions were completed on this day.

Stallions outlast E-Lions in game 2 of volleyball elementary girls

          The Abra Stallions outlasts the E-Lions, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18 in game 2 of the elementary volleyball girls in a thriller match held at the Tayum Bersamin Sports Complex on February 5.

          Amidst the cheering crowd at the Tayum Bersamin Complex on Monday, the Abra Stallions proved to be the steadier team down the stretch as they outlasted the Baguio E-Lions in three thrilling sets, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18. The Stallions overwhelmed the E-Lions in crunch time to pull out the win for the game which lasted for almost an hour.
