Officials share punch lines to CAR athletes

Both DepEd and political officials might have considered the old adage “One word is enough for the wise” before they attended the Civic Parade and Opening Program of the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association  (CARAA) 2017 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl, Baguio City on Feb. 4

This is because they have shared to more or less four thousand athletes and sports officials inspiring punch lines, with just two or three words, which they have incorporated in their speeches.

Benguet overwhelms Abra with a final score of 82-87 overtime game after their recently concluded semifinals for secondary men’s basketball in St. Louis Univeristy-Laboratory High School Gym in Navy Base, Baguio City on February 7.

Baguio lady kickers lead futsal standings

The Baguio futsal team leads the standings with two wins, zero loss in the ongoing CARAA meet being held at the PFVR Gym, Baguio City.

Apayao, Benguet and Mt. Province have one win each in the last five games.

Valdazan E. Capuyan, tournament manager for futsal tells us, “This event has been happening for four years and it’s still new. With that, we have prepared our team by having them accredited and by letting them take refresher courses. This year’s CARAA is always improving in terms of the referees, coaches and the level of the game is going up.”

It will take more than a few quick flicks of the wrist to build badminton into a sport that is played and watched with the same level of intensity as watching basketball or volleyball.

Apayao bags homerun win in baseball

                With loud cheers and encouragements, the teams both in elementary and secondary levels were all concentrated and undeterred by the drizzle and fog enveloping the Benguet Complex field on February 4.

                Apayao baseball boys elementary dominated Game 1 against Mt. Province, 13-6.

                The Apayao team took the lead in the first two innings but Mt. Province caught up in the 3rd and 4th innings, scoring 3-2. During the 5th inning, both teams tied at 5-5. In the 7th inning, however, Apayao defeated Mt. Province with its 8-1 homeruns.

Mt Province takes big hop in Kadangkadang

Mountain Province secured its first win when its Kadangkadang representatives outran their opponents with their fast and precise manipulation of thier wooden stilts during the CARAA 2017 Opening Program held at the Athletic Bowl, February 4.

                The crowd cheered in delight as the boys set off and sprinted with their wooden stilts during the relay. A team member stumbled but still got up to finish the game.

Badminton events smash first day CARAA

Baguio’s Andre Payoen smashes for his second win in Badminton Singles-Elementary Boys

The singles event for both elementary and secondary boys and girls division was off to a great start on February 4, 2017 at the PFVR Gym, Baguio City.

Games were simultaneously conducted in four makeshift courts that occupied the whole PFVR gym.

In the Boys Singles Elementary Division, Baguio dominates Bracket A with 2 wins and Mt. Province and Ifugao with one win. Ifugao, Abra and Kalinga started off with a win for Bracket B.

Benguet wins first game of Men’s Secondary Basketball

The basketball team secondary for boys of Benguet beat Ifugao during their first game that was held on February 4, 2017 in Saint Louis University-Laboratory High School Gym with a score of 58-71.
