Benguet and Ifugao’s players get ready for the jump ball during the first game of Men’s Secondary Basketball that was held on February 4 in Saint Louis University-Laboratory High School Gym.

The basketball team secondary for boys of Benguet beat Ifugao during their first game that was held on February 4, 2017 in Saint Louis University-Laboratory High School Gym with a score of 58-71.

During the first quarter, Ifugao led by 3 points in the 19-16 final score. However, in the second quarter, Benguet rallied through as Tuazon stepped up and scored a couple of two-pointers for the team. They ended the second quarter with a score of 32-39 in favor of Benguet.

Ifugao was having an increase in turnover during the third quarter, ending the third quarter with 38-55, still in favor of Benguet.

Benguet’s defense changed during the fourth quarter as they switched it to man-to-man and helped them win the game with 58-71

Pablito Yanes, co-coach of Benguet described his team as “very diverse since they came from different districts of Benguet. During their training, we housed them together for one week so they can create a bond as a team.” When asked what he always tell his team was that, “Always build your confidence because I believe that they already have the skills.”

Key players of the game John Russell Tuazon and Neil Ralph Ulep mentioned that “The training even if it was only for a week was very helpful to us. We were very nervous because this is our first game. It also helped that our parents are very supportive. We hope to win the next games as we face Team Baguio tomorrow.”
