Badminton events smash first day CARAA

Baguio’s Andre Payoen smashes for his second win in Badminton Singles-Elementary Boys

The singles event for both elementary and secondary boys and girls division was off to a great start on February 4, 2017 at the PFVR Gym, Baguio City.

Games were simultaneously conducted in four makeshift courts that occupied the whole PFVR gym.

In the Boys Singles Elementary Division, Baguio dominates Bracket A with 2 wins and Mt. Province and Ifugao with one win. Ifugao, Abra and Kalinga started off with a win for Bracket B.

Apayao, Ifugao, Baguio and Benguet have each respectively got a win for the Girls Singles Elementary Division for Bracket A while Kalinga, Abra and Mt. Province have also achieved a win.

The secondary division had Abra, Ifugao, Apayao and Baguio garner one win for boys singles in Bracket A while Mt. Province, Benguet, Ifugao and Baguio for Bracket B.

Girls singles in the secondary had Benguet, Mt. Province, Ifugao and Baguio City get a win in Bracket A during the first day and Ifugao, Baguio and Abra started with one win each for Bracket B.

Ms. Lolita Manzano, tournament manager in Badminton for CARAA 2017 said that “We are holding the games simultaneously with the help of the accredited officiating officials from all over Cordillera.” She proudly describes her team as “Highly-trained as they have undergone series of tests and lectures, physical fitness, practicum and exams for them to be qualified as officiating officials.” When asked what’s different for this year’s tournament staff for Badminton, she quipped, “There is a big improvement when it comes to regional accreditation.
